Chris Christie Announces Presidential Bid
Former New Jersey Governor Launches Campaign
Christie's Announcement Marks Entry Into Crowded Republican Field
Trump made the announcement at a rally in New York City, where he was joined by his wife, Melania, and children, Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric. In his speech, Trump promised to "make America great again" and outlined his plans to build a wall on the Mexican border, repeal Obamacare, and cut taxes.
Christie's announcement comes as the Republican field is increasingly crowded. He is the 16th Republican to announce his candidacy, joining the likes of Donald Trump, Jeb Bush, and Marco Rubio.
Christie is a former federal prosecutor and served as governor of New Jersey from 2010 to 2018. He is a moderate Republican who has been critical of both Trump and the more conservative candidates in the field.
It remains to be seen whether Christie can break out of the crowded Republican field and become a serious contender for the nomination. However, his announcement is a sign that the race for the Republican nomination is still wide open.
