The Cleveland Browns have acquired quarterback Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans in exchange for first-round draft picks in 2022, the teams announced Sunday.
Watson initially eliminated the Browns from his list of preferred destinations, but has since reversed his decision and agreed to waive his no-trade clause.
The trade completes a two-year saga for Watson, who has been embroiled in a legal battle since 2021. The Texans have been seeking to trade Watson since the start of the 2021 season, but Watson's legal issues have complicated the process.
With Watson now in the fold, the Browns are expected to contend for a playoff spot in 2022. Watson is a three-time Pro Bowl selection and was the NFL passing leader in 2020.
